Marin General Hospital's Breast Diagnostic Center Receives National Excellence Award
GREENBRAE, Calif., November 18, 2008 - The Breast Diagnostic Center of Marin, a program of Marin General Hospital, has been named a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR), an honor given to fewer than 300 of the nation’s 8,000 accredited mammography centers.
The award was announced after a visit to the Center and evaluation by expert physicians and medical physicists representing the ACR.
“Our outstanding team has been working hard to raise the bar in the delivery of digital mammography, a lifesaving diagnostic technique that is vitally important to the health of Marin County women,” said Vida S. Campbell, MD, Medical Director of the Breast Diagnostic Center of Marin. “We are delighted at this award and acknowledgement by the ACR.”
Only diagnostic centers that have earned accreditation in all ACR mammography and breast imaging programs are given the excellence designation. To be eligible, centers must offer the full range of diagnostic services: mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy.
“This excellence award recognizes that we have achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs,” Dr. Campbell said.
The ACR, headquartered in Reston, Va., is a national organization dedicated to improving the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology, as well as the delivery of comprehensive health care.
